The Rhythm Devils to appear at Hoxeyville Music Festival: Grateful Dead Members return to Northern Michigan

WELLSTON, Mich. /Music Industry Newswire/ — This year marks the eighth year of the Hoxeyville Music Festival. And, this week, festival organizers announced the addition of the world famous drumming duo – the Rhythm Devils – featuring Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, originally of the Grateful Dead. Hart and Kreutzmann have a reputation for having transcended rock and roll stereotypes through their polyrhythmic explorations of the world of percussion, using an extraordinary variety of instruments and approaches.

The Hoxeyville Music Festival is scheduled to take place from August 20 through August 22, 2010 in the heart of the Mainstee National Forest, about 40 minutes south of Traverse City, MI.

Also scheduled to appear at this three-day event are Keller Williams, often referred to as “a one-man-band;” Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe; The New Deal, who have inspired audiences of all kinds; Steve Kimock and Crazy Engine; Todd Snider; Greensky Bluegrass, traditional bluegrass to make anyone feel comfortable and at home; Seth and May; and a host of outstanding talent from around the country – in all, over 35 bands.

The festival site includes a disc golf course designed by Stephani Meyers of Disc Golf Michigan with a late night glow course, on-site primitive camping, craft beer tent, food vendors, and arts and crafts vendors from around the region.

The main stage is located adjacent to two modern campgrounds and thousands of acres of national forest. Camping opportunities range from VIP to general admission and quiet camping options.

“The setting has everything that makes northern Michigan great,” remarked Jake Robinson, an event organizer. “Woods, water, fresh air – this is a weekend that lets you get back to nature and back to real, honest music making.”

Hoxeyville has established itself as a music festival for music lovers,” Added Robinson. “It’s the perfect size, large enough to draw national acts, but small enough to make it manageable. So everyone winds up in a spot that lets them really enjoy the performances.”

Tickets are $99 and include on-site car camping. $130 at the gate. The festival gates open at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 20th. For ticketing and more information, visit: www.hoxeyville.com .

Using Flash Drives in the Music Industry

Flash drives are often viewed as useful portable devices that can store and transfer high volumes of files to other devices. Due to their low costs and high capacities, flash drives are widely used by all classes of computer users. These compact devices became so popular that people are less aligned to buy CDs and DVDs unless they are purely for backup purposes. The music industry has realised this as well and several bands are ditching the CDs as well by creatively releasing their latest albums on flash drives.

This can simply be achieved by copying the tracks at their highest quality into the drive, complete with track information and the drive is ready to go. This is beneficial to both the fans and the artists themselves.
Here are some reasons why the use of flash drives in the music industry should be welcomed:

Reduced Piracy

Music artists and record labels have been fighting piracy long and hard, yet they still suffer from their songs being pirated even before they are released. This is because most people cannot see any benefits of purchasing the audio CD unless they are collectors. With the album released on a flash drive, fans can view the specialized flash drive as a ‘freebie’ that is unlike any standard USB flash drive.

Better Marketing

A music store is filled with tons of albums that compete for selection by using their album art as the front end. Now artists can go beyond their creative album arts and add style and funky designs to their flash drives to make them really stand out. Nobody will resist a uniquely styled flash drive that even has the logo. Some interesting concepts allow people to wear their flash drive albums around their neck or wrist.

Easier Distribution

Mp3 players have quickly replaced walkmans and discmans since they were first introduced rendering the audio CD virtually useless. These players have a high enough capacity to store hundreds of albums and transferring these CD tracks to mp3 players requires a little bit of conversion work. Most albums distribute their flash drive albums in mp3 format so they are ready for play in any portable media device.

All the Benefits of a Flash Drive

Standard audio CDs are read-only, but flash drives can be formatted to make way for other files. Flash drive album owners can optionally move their tracks to another location and put other things in making it work just like a regular flash drive that was newly purchased.

Purchased CDs often get scratched even when they are handled well and are dust magnets as they age. Albums on flash drives get all the protection benefits of flash drives which makes them last longer. They are easier to store as well due to their compact size.

Album-branded flash drives aren’t that popular as of yet since a single USB drive is nowhere near the cost of a blank CD. But flash drives are becoming cheaper to produce and it is expected for more albums to be released on flash drives.

iZotope Technology Licensed for Inclusion in Rock Band 3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. /Music Industry Newswire/ — Since 2007, Harmonix’s Rock Band has enabled players to live out their fantasy as a rock vocalist. Now, thanks to a technology licensing agreement with iZotope, Inc., a research-driven audio signal processing company, gamers who play upcoming Rock Band 3 this holiday will be able to take their vocal performance to new heights.

Using iZotope’s real-time pitch detection and pitch shifting middleware, Rock Band 3 provides players with the option to enable vocal effects commonly used in the music industry, assisting players to sing on key more easily with pitch correction and bringing the tools that pros use into the living room.

“The ability to have pitch correction in real-time helps to enhance the vocal gameplay and players’ in-game performance in Rock Band,” said Eran Egozy, CTO and co-founder of Harmonix. “We’re excited to feature iZotope’s technology and this new middleware in Rock Band 3 so that our players can enjoy the type of vocal effects that professional rock stars utilize for live stage performances in their homes this holiday.”

“With the production values of video games rivaling that of commercial albums and blockbuster films, consumers expect the same caliber of video and audio quality during dynamic, real-time game play,” explains Mark Ethier, CEO of iZotope. “Rock Band is an ideal platform for us to showcase iZotope’s technology so we can provide gamers with studio-grade audio effects that professional mixers, sound designers and others in the entertainment industry have relied on for years.”

“Asanova” by AYB Force

“Asanova” by AYB Force is from their “Lost Break” album. I freakin’ love this group. AYB FORCE has been getting known bigger. They have been credited each time they release their products. As a master-mind of chopping beats, taking drum samples and remaking them to their own sound, their name has been spread throughout the world. Their sounds have seemed to be thought as Hip Hop. It does have Hip Hop taste. Besides, it does have a sound concept enough in order to create another music genre. As you put your ears to their past releases, EP THE BADDEST BREAKS & BEATS, FUNKY OREO 2000, BEVEL SUMMIT/JUST A LIL COKE, SAMPLER 01 and Sampler 02 etc. Before they finally formed AYB FORCE, two different names were on them. The first name was DJ LARK and THE FUNK MESSANGERS. They did co-produce EP THE BADDEST BREAKS & BEATS. The EP was released from Assign Note, their own label. The sales of the EP were beyond their expectation, remarkably developing a foundation as a beat maker. Individuals in AYB FORCE are also a DJ, an efficient way to deliver people their information. Soon after the EP, they contracted to Delic Records to release 12 inch single FUNKY OREO 2000 At that time, a decision of formation of AYB was incepted. This was their second name and a short version of ABNORMAL YELLOW BAND As their 2nd vinyl in Delic Records, EP BEAVAL SUMMIT /JUST A LIL COKE was released. The EP was sold 4000 units, which was an incredible sales record in small independent labels in Japan. In 2004
