Will Within
In the year 333B.C, at a place called Issus, in the southeastern corner of Asia minor with an army of about half a million men, the great Persian king Darius 111 came there to meet Alexander the great, of Greece. Overconfident Darius also brought along his mother, wife and other members of his family so that they could witness what was to have been a spectacular victory. But the Persians were unprepared for the suddenness and vehemence of the Macedonian attack.
Alexander’s forces of just 35,000 men utterly defeated the Persian’s Army. Darius fled, abandoning his family to Alexander’s hands.
How, could an Army of 35,000 soldiers defeat an over-powering 500,000 men? The answer lies in the will from within. Will is a force, a driving force in the mind which galvanizes a person to an action. Without an internal will, the outward of our actions are as good as dead. Now the question is how does ‘will’ work? The answer to that is found in the seven letter verb, BELIEVE. Believe what? You may ask. Well, to be blazing with will, you have to believe in yourself that this task of yours can be done. Remember that survivors never lose the will, the live, the will within.
Most of mankind’s battles are fought on the battlefield but they take place in our minds where we listen to the voice of determination, courage and tenacity to go ahead amidst struggles. You can not achieve if you do not listen to the voice within the -‘’will within’’.
The popular reggae maestro, Bob Marley posits ”when there is a will, there is a way”. This statement summarizes everything on will. Marley in his time was trying to ginger up his fellow blacks to get up, unite and fight against racism. It came with little success because there was no general will. I will be more myopic if I restrict general will on racial struggle only in Jamaica. Lack of inadequate sense of will cut across the globe. A cursory look at the world will show that few people apply their talent, of determination to the will within.
My use of ‘apply’ connote that everybody has an atom of will in him. The problem is many fail to trigger of that spirit. So, why is it that many people resign to fate or become easily hopeless when confronted with difficult situations? They fail to believe in them selves. They are afraid. The ‘I cannot’ mental sting them like bees. Yes, the fear of the unknown, act like recurring decimal in their subconscious mind. Well, consider this fear is learned, therefore it can be unlearned. Few people who have succeeded in conquering their fears changed the existing norms, values and system in the epoch of their local or national history. Somebody once told me ”conquer your fear so that you can conquer death”. Many would think that is an exaggeration. But the paradox lies in the fact that fear make you mentally crippled, emotionally inferior and physically handicapped.
”I CAN’T” attitude or mentality might look so harmless but it brought untold sufferings, mistakes and failures to people of the past and present. Now let the living people guard against it, so that it will not eat into the fabrics of the future generation. We can only do that by bequeathing a legacy of success, I-can-do mentality, determination, inner strength and most importantly that of will, so that in the annals of history, posterity will write our name in gold that you and I blazed in the path of success.
There is a sensitive portion of the mind that is awake to flashes of knowledge from an outside source. This is the means where we can tune in to new knowledge and understanding, can have a new vision and a better techniques, in the mystery of life. Ray Charles began to go blind when he was five. He became totally blind by the age of seven, orphaned at the age of fourteen. This misfortune did not discourage Uncle Ray when he started music, he allowed his mind to awaken to the flash of knowledge from within and the outside source. He believed he could rise above the petty, harried inefficient self of his life. He had a determination and recreated his destiny. He started playing in some of the toughest juke joint in the State and finally landed a recoding contract with Athlantic records. He took control of his life career from his earliest days, the driving force within him created more courage for him, moving from gospel to country music , also gaining ground in pure jazz and finally touched the powerful pop hit. Determination invested in the will within result to his undoubtedly legend in the music industry.
Albert Einstein says ” I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Having a clear strategy of your own, start from inside. Creating a clear vision can be made possible by the will within and your imagination. A son of a frontier man, who had to struggle for a living and for learning -ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Summoned up the internal will, left the world I can’t aside, consumed himself with the imagination of a great mind towards the manifestation of his goals. Even when he loss to Stephen A Douglass in a senatorial election, he never muffled under the loss but he drove the will within towards his goals. He gained national reputation for himself during his debate with Douglass that won the republican a nomination for president in 1860. His internal will never dies by his background or his loss in Senatorial election. Lighting up the courage within, makes him to realize he could become the president even though he lost a senatorial election. The power of imagination; The great mind of creativities consummate the manifestation of his dreams. If not for the power of imagination so many people would still be struggle to make their name known. Bill Gate could have remained in Harvard from his pre-law to be a mathematician. But he summoned up the will within, the power of I can make this dream comes to reality, that will consumed him and took total control of his imagination, catapulting him to his dream world.
Human being must have action; and they can make it if they cannot find it. Most successful men of this world of ours, make their way toward greatness. None of them expect manna from heaven, they strategize, they are determined, left the world I-can’t, are not afraid to fail. By so doing they have established the will within, planted it by the river side, watered it all day and night. Its fruit is ‘’success’’ and ‘’greatness’’.
I must not forget to say something about the peer pressure. Never listen to the toneless of the peer when the going is tough. What I mean by the toneless is, jesting, mockery, abuses all coming from your peer toward your project. Some may even call it a crazy ideal. You alone can make the world laugh at you. You alone have the power to turn your idea to a crazy one. What you need is to accept your limitations and go beyond them. Forget the saying about some people that human beings is what the circumstance makes but assert this saying and put it at the back of your mind that ‘’very often man is what he makes of himself’’. Thomas Edison was the last born of a family of seven. In school, the young Edison’s mind often wandered, his teacher was overheard calling him ‘’addled’’. This ended Edison’s three month official schooling. But his mother did a great job by making him to realize the will within, gave him the courage, tell him he could be somebody. His mother tutored him and much of his education came from self-reading. He also developed hearing problems at an early age.
Today, Thomas Edison was considered one of the most prolific investors in history, holding 1,093 U.S. patents in his name as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Someone that was once called ADDLED, now invented many things even for the generation of the people that abused him. What makes him is the power of courage inside him, the believe on himself outstood it deafness and continue burning of the will within make his ideas comes true. Ben Carson was considered a dullard in the class, his colleagues when he was in junior school always made jest of him, never do well in class, they even said he was the most numbness in the world. The internal will tells him he can do more. His mother fire up the courage within and he believed in himself. Nurture the will inside for the outstanding outcome. Today, Ben has saved many life by his geniuses the most numbness now become the most genius among his peers. He did not allow such pressure to cover him and kill the burning fire of the will within. He fought back to revive his courage, believed in himself to get to his dream world.
Great spirit have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. Be ready for war, if you want to win. Be ready to take up the charge for the undoubtly victory. You can lose in everything, and still there is hope, but if you lose faith in yourself, then you are doomed. Believe it or not, man is the master of the transforming environment, molding matter to his will, conquering the sea and riding the heaven. You can not expect people to idolize your ideas, you get no value until you make a valuable achievement. Your creative force will drive them crazy taking you to be mad. But know this today before you can overcome every obstacle in the part of mediocre mind you must not relent in your effort until you have a pronounced achievement. If your plan is proper every one will be your friend.
James Allen says ‘’man is mind and evermore, he takes the tools of thought and shaping what he will, bring forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills. He thinks in secret and it comes to pass’’. Where desire is strong enough, backed up and will, with no conflict with natural law. Then, such desire will make product, it will materialize to that which you want it to be. There are 2,598,960 possible five-card poker hands but you will be dealt only one. The beauty of it is, you don’t have to have the best hand to win.
‘’Not in the clamor of the crowded street; Not in the shouts and plaudit of the thong,But in ourselves, are triumph and defeat’’.
Summon that courage within you today for you to be reckoned with, you got the chances, the wing and the opportunities the great people possess. So, let’s fly for the sky is not too far.
